Round Robin: A Night of Improvised Duets

A Red Bull Music flagship event series that has been held in cities including Montreal, Chicago, and Zurich, Round Robin comes to Toronto for a night of live improvisation. In collaboration with local monthly live jam PRACTICE, the evening will feature a diverse and accomplished group of Canadian musicians, artists, and performers. The rules are simple. To begin, a musician will take the stage for a five-minute solo performance. Then, another artist will join them for five minutes of duo improvisation. When that’s finished, the first musician will leave the stage, making way for a new artist to emerge and a new collaboration to be born. The wide-ranging lineup includes throat singer and Polaris Prize winner Tanya Tagaq, DJ and Juno-nominated producer Skratch Bastid, multimedia artist and harpist Maylee Todd, Cindy Lee (former Women frontman Patrick Flegel), electronic violist Melody McKiver, hip-house evangelist and Practice host Matthew Progress, TiKA, and Casey MQ (the latter two are also playing this year’s Red Bull Music Festival Montreal), with surprise guests to be announced.
