In interviews over the past couple of years, Canadian multi-instrumentalist music legend Daniel Lanois has mentioned his interest in new experimental or electronic music, its often low-cost impact, and his thoughts of doing a collaboration show with another pioneering Canadian musician, Venetian Snares. Now, that hook-up performance is finally happening, including a Toronto show right here in The Great Hall’s Main Hall.

Winnipeg musician and producer Venetian Snares (Aaron Funk), a restless, prolific pioneering force behind some of the 21st century’s most diverse electronic music, like 2005’s classically-informed Rossz Csillag Alatt Született and 2015’s Thank You for Your Consideration, continues to make inventive, now internet-driven music, particularly for synth enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, Lanois’ latest solo record, 2016’s Goodbye to Language, could be called “ambient” because there are no vocals or drums, but there’s still plenty going on. “I’m not interested in background music,” Lanois told Rolling Stone. “It’s more about soul and drawing an emotion out of the listener.”

Listen to Venetian Snares’ Magnificent Stumble V2 here.
Listen to Daniel Lanois Goodbye to Language album with Rocco Deluca here.

Toronto-based electronic musician Joanne Pollock, who, with Funk, also makes up the band Poemss, is slated to support Venetian Snares and Lanois at The Great Hall.
