Sistema Toronto is a grassroots charity that provides a free music education and social development program to 275 at-risk kids in the GTA. The program is designed to help students develop the confidence and grit they need to be successful in all areas of life and to support families living on the margins in finding upward mobility. In May 2018, after two years of consultation, the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport approved $500,000 in funding for Sistema Toronto. In late August the Government of Ontario announced that they would not be moving ahead with the promised funding, leaving Sistema Toronto with an enormous funding gap just three weeks before the start of the school year.
